Before we talk about what Literature means we must know its source:

We must first understand that Literature is a derivative of the word literate which  describes a person with the ability to read and write. This  understanding will probably gives us a clue on the causative meaning of Literature.

Now what is Literature?

The term Literature can be used in two ways namely the general description of Literature and the Artistic depiction of Literature  .

The general description of Literature has to do with it's description as any printed material that gives information or instruction.In this sense Literature can be any journal, manual, textbook, etc.

Literature as a field of art is a creative or imaginative work of art , it is an Artistic depiction of events and tales . Literature is writing  that uses Artistic expression and form.  Literature has three genres namely ; Drama prose and poetry
